Retreat, at your own pace

A quiet place to step away from noise, return to yourself, and make space for rest, reflection, practice, or simply being.

Come here to slow down

This isn’t about filling every hour. It’s about having enough space to notice.

Ashram Sri Lanka won’t hand you a timetable. There is a piece of jungle, five simple rooms, simple food, an open-air shala and a lot of quiet. What you do with the days is up to you. Some guests come for three days to catch their breath. Others stay a week or two in silence, or to give a long-held practice their full attention. The six retreats below are not programmes you sign up for. They are six ways of approaching your time here, so you can choose the kind of space you need.

The Quiet Reset

A short retreat for rest, stillness and returning to yourself

Recommended stay: 3 nights / 4 days

The Quiet Reset is an invitation to step away from mental noise, notifications and daily pressure.

Spend a few days surrounded by nature, with time for rest, gentle personal practice, unhurried meals, reading, journaling and silence.

You don’t have to stop working completely to take a break. The Work & Holiday Retreat at Ashram Sri Lanka is for people who want a peaceful environment to continue their work while also having time to relax, slow down and reconnect with themselves.

Unlike a typical hotel or coworking space, the Ashram offers a simple lifestyle in the jungle, with opportunities for independent yoga and meditation, healthy Sri Lankan food and quiet time.

Your retreat may include
  • Time in silence and in the natural surroundings
  • Self-guided meditation and reflection
  • Your own yoga or gentle movement practice
  • Walks through the surrounding nature
  • Unhurried meals and quiet rest
  • Time without unnecessary phone use
  • Journaling and personal contemplation

The Silent Living Retreat

Simplicity, inner silence and uninterrupted time

Recommended stay: 5 nights / 6 days

The Silent Living Retreat is for guests who want to explore a longer period of quiet.

There is no formal course. You live simply in the natural surroundings of the ashram and let your practice develop through awareness, responsibility for your own day, and unhurried time.

Silence here is not a performance or a test of endurance. It is a chance to listen more carefully, notice the mind, and live for a while with less unnecessary input.

Your retreat may include
  • Extended periods of personal silence
  • Self-guided meditation and yoga practice
  • Mindful walking and time in nature
  • Reading, writing and contemplative reflection
  • Simple, quiet meals
  • Less digital communication
  • Unstructured time for rest and observation

The Personal Yoga & Meditation Retreat

Space for your own practice in a natural setting

Recommended stay: 5 to 7 nights

This retreat is for practitioners who want uninterrupted time to deepen a practice they already have.

Bring your own sequence, meditation method, books or contemplative discipline, and build a daily rhythm that fits your experience. The open-air yoga shala is there for your own practice.

Ashram Sri Lanka provides the environment. You bring the intention, the discipline, and the willingness to listen to your own body and mind.

Your retreat may include
  • Your own asana, pranayama or movement practice
  • Self-guided sitting or walking meditation
  • A quiet place for study and reflection
  • Time to repeat and refine your practice
  • Nature, stillness and simple living
  • Reading and contemplative study
  • Journaling and personal reflection

There are no yoga or meditation teachers at the ashram and no classes. This retreat is entirely self-guided.

The Digital Silence Retreat

Restore your attention by living with less digital noise

Recommended stay: 3 to 5 nights

Modern life often leaves the mind split between messages, news, work, social media and endless information.

The Digital Silence Retreat is a gentle chance to turn that noise down and notice the difference between being constantly connected and being present.

You decide how far to go. The point is not to reject technology, but to build a more conscious relationship with it.

Your retreat may include
  • An agreement with yourself about your phone and screens
  • Periods without social media, news or unnecessary messaging
  • Mindful walking and watching nature
  • Reading, writing, drawing or other quiet creative work
  • Your own meditation and reflection
  • Time away from notifications
  • Unhurried meals and rest

This is not an enforced digital detox. Nobody will take your phone or check on you. You set your own limits.

The Nature & Mindful Living Retreat

Reconnect with the body, the earth and a simpler rhythm

Recommended stay: 5 nights / 6 days

This retreat is for guests who want to try a slower, more grounded way of living.

The jungle, its sounds, simple food, movement, rest and small everyday tasks all become part of the practice.

You are invited to notice how you walk, eat, breathe, work, rest, and relate to the world around you.

Your retreat may include
  • Mindful walking and quiet observation of nature
  • Your own yoga or gentle movement
  • Meditation with the sounds of the jungle
  • Mindful eating and appreciation of simple food
  • Some gardening, light service or practical tasks, where available
  • Journaling about habits, values and attention
  • Quiet periods without unnecessary stimulation

Practical tasks depend on what is happening at the ashram during your stay. There is no formal volunteering programme.

Somewhere quiet enough to hear your own thoughts

The Life Transition Retreat

Make space when life is changing

Recommended stay: 5 to 7 nights

Change can leave us unsure of what comes next. A shift in work, a relationship, where you live, or who you are becoming can bring a need for quiet reflection before you make new decisions.

The Life Transition Retreat doesn’t offer quick answers. It offers time to rest, write, walk, practise and listen carefully to your own values.

Your retreat may include
  • Quiet reflection and personal journaling
  • Self-guided meditation and yoga
  • Nature walks and periods of silence
  • Questions to help you clarify your values and priorities
  • Time away from social pressure and constant advice
  • Reflecting on what to let go of, continue or begin
  • A practical next-step plan to take home

This is a space for your own reflection. The ashram does not provide therapy, counselling, coaching or professional advice, and a stay here is not a substitute for professional support.

This is not a scheduled retreat centre.

Ashram Sri Lanka doesn’t ask you to follow a timetable or join group activities. There are no compulsory classes, workshops, ceremonies or daily programmes.

Your retreat is your own. You decide when to practise, walk, read, rest, write, eat, disconnect, or simply sit quietly.

The place gives you the space. You decide what to do with it.

Your days are yours

One way a day might unfold. It is an example, not a schedule.

Morning

Wake slowly. Sit quietly. Practise. Walk.

Midday

Eat simply. Rest. Read. Reflect.

Afternoon

Explore the jungle. Write. Practise. Do nothing at all.

Evening

Eat quietly. Watch the light change. Sit with the day.

Nothing here is fixed. Not sure which retreat suits you? See who Ashram Sri Lanka is for.

You don’t always need to go somewhere to find yourself.

Sometimes you simply need enough quiet to hear yourself again. Come for a few days. Stay with your own rhythm.
