Questions guests often ask
The retreat
Is this a guided yoga retreat?
No. There are no teachers, classes or programmes. You bring your own yoga and meditation practice and follow your own rhythm.
Is it suitable for beginners?
It suits people who already have some yoga or meditation experience and can practise on their own. If you want beginner classes, a guided retreat will serve you better.
Is there a daily schedule?
No. There is no timetable. You decide when to practise, walk, read, rest or stay in silence.
Is there a guru or teacher?
No. There are no resident gurus, teachers or spiritual authorities. Ashram Sri Lanka is not a traditional ashram and does not offer teachings.
Is this a digital detox?
Only if you want it to be. The Digital Silence Retreat is an invitation to use your phone less. Nobody takes your phone or checks on you. You set your own limits.
Does the ashram offer therapy or counselling?
No. The Life Transition Retreat is a space for your own reflection. It is not therapy, counselling or coaching, and it is not a substitute for professional support.
Is there volunteering?
There is no formal volunteering programme. Guests on the Nature & Mindful Living Retreat may join some gardening or practical tasks where available, but nothing is required.
Staying here
How many guests stay at one time?
Five at most. There are only five rooms.
Is this a hotel?
No. There is no reception, room service or entertainment. It is a simple place, naturally built so you can live close to nature for a while.
Are meals provided?
Yes. Traditional Sri Lankan vegetarian meals, mostly rice and curry. All food and drinks cost USD 10 per person per day, payable daily or at the end of your stay.
Can guests cook?
Meals are prepared by the ashram, and there is no cooking to order.
What should I bring?
Mosquito repellent, toilet paper if you use it (it is not used here), and whatever you need for your own practice.
Is it suitable for solo travellers?
Yes. The retreat is built around quiet time on your own.
Booking and getting here
How much does it cost?
$16 to $22 per person per night, not per room, depending on the room. Food and drinks are USD 10 per person per day. Airbnb shows the exact price for your dates.
How do I book?
Choose a room and book it on Airbnb. Bookings are first come, first served. We do not take phone or walk-in bookings. Questions can be sent on WhatsApp.
Can I stay for a week or longer?
Yes. We suggest stays of 7 or 14 days. For longer stays, message us on WhatsApp.
What is the cancellation policy?
It is shown on each room’s Airbnb listing.
Where is the retreat and how do I get there?
In Katuwana, a quiet village about 30 km from Tangalle and 50 km from Matara in southern Sri Lanka. There are no road signs and the last stretch of road is rough. Use Google Maps and take a tuk-tuk from town. Directions.
