Therefore, we are very grateful to our guests who travel to the ashram from their destination using public transportation. Beginning with the start of your journey to the ashram, you begin to learn or realize who you are. At last, always try to take a tuk-tuk from Katuwana if it is not very easy to get lost in the village.(If not, you lose the best part of your self-realization)

Frequently Asked Questions 

This meditation center is a non-profit organization. Our main concept is to help you realize yourself. The journey itself becomes part of your experience when you embrace simple living, such as using public transport.

We encourage visitors to use public transport to reach the ashram. For the final stretch (less than 2 km), we recommend walking or taking a tuk-tuk (negotiate the price before get in to the Tuk Tuk ???? don’t become ???? to them)due to the following reasons:

  1. The road is challenging for new cars, especially in rainy conditions.
  2. The way is easier to navigate using Google Maps.

From Katunayake International Airport or Colombo

  • Take a highway bus from Katunayake (1200m from the airport; use Google Maps) to Colombo, Kadawatha, or Makumbura.
  • From there, take a highway bus to Matara (2-3 hours).
  • At Matara Main Bus Stand, take a bus to Middiniya and get off at the Katuwana AGA Office (100 minutes).
  • Walk or take a tuk-tuk to the ashram (10 minutes/2 km).

From Negombo

  • There is a highway bus from Negombo to Matara.

From Kandy

  • Take a highway or regular bus to Kadawatha and then a highway bus to Matara.

Direct Colombo to Middiniya Bus

  • This bus operates daily:
    • From Middiniya: 4:45 AM
    • From Colombo: 3:30 PM
  • Call 076 781 9130 for reservations.

Note: Try to reach Matara and take the Middiniya bus before 5:00 PM as there are fewer buses in the evening.


Other Routes

  • From Hiriketiya: Take a bus to Tangalle, then to Walasmulla, and finally to Middiniya. Get off at Katuwana AGA Office and walk or take a tuk-tuk.
  • From Mirissa: Take a bus to Matara, then follow the steps above to Katuwana.
  • From Ella: Travel to Wellawaya or Thanamalvila. Take a bus to Abilipitiya, then to Middiniya and take Matara bus and Finally, get off at Katuwana AGA Office and take a tuk-tuk.
  • From Arugambay: Travel to Monaragala, take a bus to Abilipitiya, then Middiniya, and finally get off at Katuwana AGA Office.

By Train (6 hours)

  • From Colombo Fort Railway Station, take a train to Matara (3 hours).
  • Walk to Hakmana Road and take a Middiniya bus. Get off at the Katuwana AGA Office (60 minutes).
  • Take a tuk-tuk to the ashram (1800m).
